Golden Gloves Regional Tournament to Be Hosted in Seattle for the First Time, Featuring Roberto Durán

Seattle, WA — The Golden Gloves Regional Tournament will be hosted in Seattle for the first time ever, marking a historic milestone for the city and for amateur boxing in the Pacific Northwest. The two day tournament begins April 10 at Nomad Boxing’s Skyway location in South Seattle and concludes April 11 at Fremont Studios, with Nomad Boxing serving as the official host.

The event will feature elite amateur boxing talent from across the region and will be headlined by legendary boxer Roberto Durán, who will travel from his native Panama to attend. The tournament champion will receive a one of a kind “Roberto Durán Golden Gloves Champion” belt, designed exclusively for this historic Seattle debut.

Beyond the competition, the Golden Gloves tournament underscores boxing’s long standing role as a source of guidance, opportunity, and belonging for young people in communities where access to structure and mentorship has not always been guaranteed. For generations, boxing gyms have served as places where youth learn accountability, confidence, and perseverance, both inside and outside the ring.

“This is an incredibly proud moment for us and for Seattle,” said Manuel Dunham, founder of Nomad Boxing. “To officially host the Golden Gloves here for the first time is a major milestone. Adding Roberto Durán to this event makes it even more meaningful. He represents everything this sport stands for discipline, resilience, and excellence.”

Dunham also credited Pedro Gomez of Renace, a Seattle based consulting firm, for helping make the moment possible.

“I want to personally thank Pedro for his commitment to making this tournament special,” Dunham added. “Bringing a living legend like Roberto Durán to Seattle is no small thing. Giving young fighters the opportunity to meet someone they’ve studied, admired, and drawn inspiration from is powerful. This is the kind of experience that can change how a young athlete sees what’s possible.”

Gomez emphasized the importance of giving back and expanding access through the sport.

“Boxing gave me opportunity, direction, and community,” said Gomez. “For many Black and Brown youth, the gym becomes a place where they are pushed, supported, and believed in. Hosting the Golden Gloves in Seattle for the first time sends a message to young fighters that they belong on a big stage and that their hard work matters.”

Tickets for the Golden Gloves Regional Tournament go on sale February 1. With its first ever Seattle host city, the presence of an international boxing icon, and top regional talent, the event is expected to draw strong local and international media attention.
